Queen of Heaven

Mary is Queen of heaven and earth. Raised into glory beside her Son, she shares his royalty and reigns with him. Her dignity as queen flows from her motherhood: she is the mother of the King whose reign does not end, as the angel had announced: “The Lord God will give him the throne of David his father; he will reign for ever, and his reign will have no end.” Luke 1:32-33

Queen because Mother of the King

In the kingdom of David, the queen was the mother of the king. She sat at the right hand of her son and interceded with him for the people. When Bathsheba comes to King Solomon, he rises and honours her: “The king rose to meet her and bowed before her, then a throne was set for the king's mother, and she sat at his right hand.” 1 Kings 2:19

Christ is the promised King, son of David, whose Kingdom abides for ever. Mother of this King, Mary is the queen of his Kingdom, raised to the right hand of her Son in glory.

Crowned in glory

On the day of her Assumption, Mary was taken up body and soul into heaven and crowned Queen. John contemplates her in this glory: “A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, the moon under her feet, and a crown of twelve stars on her head.” Revelation 12:1

A royalty of service

The royalty of Mary is wholly at the service of her Son's, toward whom she leads. As the queen mother interceded with the king, Mary presents to her Son the needs of men and obtains his grace for them. At Cana, she notices the want and simply carries it before him: “The mother of Jesus said to him: They have no wine.” John 2:3
